OUR SETTING is a small house, the flower-house or hanamachi, in a sort of alternate-universe Japan. Note that these girls are in fact whores, whereas the geisha are *not*. The characters here do not claim to be geisha, they just look like them to the casual observer.
Lots of elements are stolen from geisha traditions, like the 'flower-fee', the costuming, the Japanese-like setting, the fact that Acacia writes poetry instead of a normal diary. Lots of elements come from other places, too. It's an alternate universe, blast it, whatever I want in there goes.
THE FLOWER-HOUSE is run by Mother with an iron fist. The girls have a friendly-competetive relationship with each other, a lot of fear and respect for Mother and a perfect mask of politeness for their customers.
Customers can come from any universe you care to name. The Mother of the house is surprisingly competent in crossing dimensions, so far as I can tell. If anyone wants to work there, they have to go through the proper channels, i.e. going to the back door and being pretty.
ACACIA is the most popular girl at the house, with a flower-fee of twice that of Calantha, the next-highest-paid girl. She is famed for her ice-blue eyes and knowledge of mythology. She comes from a noble family but ran away one day, and showed up at the flower-house wearing an underkimono and twigs in her hair. Acacia is not her real name.
CALANTHA has a tendancy to make double entendres with a perfectly innocent smile. She is a bit older than Acacia and in high demand for businessmen. She is a huge gossip and takes great pride in being able to spread any secret halfway across the city in a day.
