freosanSo you know the Angels Zodiac universe I've been trying to make resemble something other than Sailor Moon high fantasy for the last five, maybe six years? I FIGURED IT OUT.
YOU SEE. We have the Ages of astrology. The first Age that mankind was around for was Leo.
Miya is Angel Leo. You see where I am going? No? That is okay, we'll get there.
Angels were/are supposed to rule during their Age and no longer. Right. So Miya should've give up the ghost at roughly 8 000 BC. Since she's still in charge, she obviously didn't.
Why'd no one notice? 'Cause Angels lose their memories if they give up their power when they die. No one had the records - Capricorn didn't start his 'til almost 5 000 BC (I shall fix this continuity error) - and since Leo was the only one with memories of that time, no one thought of it. Leo was the only one with memories of this time because she had ordered everyone to give up their powers (ostensibly to fight some external force) before the Age of Leo ended.
The current age is Pisces. Destiny Angel Pisces hasn't reincarnated yet. This is because, about five hundred years ago, Miya ordered Kaos(Virgo), Wild(Aquarius), and Destiny to form a blockade (a supernova) between our universe and another universe (Henceforth, 'the DWK event').
Virgo is the opposing sign of Pisces. The Age of Aquarius begins in 2600. No one knows how long it will be before Destiny comes back; Wild is very, very weakened; and Kaos has been brought up/brainwashed into believing that Miya is the chosen ruler of the universe. Good show, power-hungry despot!
Fury(Aries) was the first one to figure this out and have the nerve to break off from Miya. Magic(Scorpio) and Tempest(Gemini) will probably follow suit soon.
There are records of what happened at the very beginning. These are hidden with the mythical thirteenth angel, of Ophiuchus. Miya can't destroy them, but she can keep them hidden. Enter the Keys.
The Keys are important and they're scattered all over the bloody place (this probably happened at the time of the DWK event). Miya saw this scattering as an opportunity; if she can find them she can destroy them without anyone knowing, and if she destroys more than six she'll have locked off Ophiuchus and the records forever.
Fury wants them too, because if she has six keys (and the six angels they go with on her side) she can let Ophiuchus out. This'll be important, since legend holds that Ophiuchus locked him/herself away before even Miya's memory starts. Translation: hella powerful angel with knowledge of all man's - and angel's - history.
Side notes:
-Kaos is the way she is because she witnessed Miya finding and destroying the Key of Aquarius. Miya defeated her, easily, gave her a couple of scars, destroyed her Key and had Cosmos remove the memory of the event(under false pretenses). Kaos still subconsciously remembers the betrayal, hence her PTSD and protector-complex.
-The order/chaos powers belong to the owner of the Age and the owner of the Age's opposing sign, and trump whatever powers they were studying for before. Angels only get the power, though, when they've given up power and reincarnated. Kaos worked with waves before the DWK event. Destiny was a prophet.
-Cosmos(Libra) currently has the order power (Aries-Libra was the last Age), but it'll fade when Destiny is reincarnated, leaving Cosmos with... love magic? I think? Sarah?
-Magic(Scorpio) absolutely hates her job, and Miya. She'll be the first to leave.
-Amazon(Sagittarius) wants to fight... something specific. She can't - Miya won't let her.
-Tempest(Gemini) goes to Fury's side out of pure curiosity.
-There are constant outside threats: universes tear, black holes threaten, the Chinese Zodiac from a parallel universe is not entirely healthy, etc. Angels originally formed to deal with this sort of threat.
-Presented as if Miya is the 'good' side; leak information slowly
-The wings are for transportation through space, flying in atmosphere is done by magic (without wings, no teleportation is possible.)
-Ages:
Virgo, Aquarius from c. 1500 AD
Aries, Libra from c. 1000 BC
Taurus, Scorpio from c. 3-2000 BC
Gemini, Sagittarius from c. 55-4000 BC
Cancer, Capricorn from c. 8-6000 BC
